My family seems to be going nuts lately, not only is sister issues but yesterday my freshly divorced brother with kids, calls me up after not hearing from him for about 2 months. Starts conversation with don’t tell anyone! He told me he has been snorting heroin and went through three days of withdrawal trying to quit. I was devastated but happy he had stopped. I get a call last night that says I am so sorry but I had to do it again, I can’t handle it. His wife and me knew each other before they were married and she has no idea! (heck no one did) I just thought he was taking a time out and acting wild, going out every night and drinking and stuff due to divorce. I keep ending up with these moral questions of do not tell. I ask him to go to rehab, he says he can’t risk ex wife finding out. Cause he is afraid she won’t let him around the kids. Yet I am thinking does he need to be around the kids anyway with this problem. I really don’t know a lot about this addiction. Or for that matter anyone who has been through this. Can anyone shed light on this for me. If I keep the secret am I enabling him? If I tell I am afraid he has no one to go to for help. It makes sense now why he owes everybody money including me. His ex wife is tough and do you think I should just keep my mouth shut and let her find out for herself? Wow this is gut wrenching.

ONE LINERS

I saw a fat person wearing a sweatshirt with ‘Guess’ on it. I said ‘Thyroid problem?’

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bike. Then I realised that the Lord doesn’t work that way, so I stole one and asked him to forgive me.

I’ve often wanted to drown my troubles, but I can’t get my wife to go swimming.

I went to a restaurant that serves ‘breakfast at any time’. So I ordered French Toast during the Renaissance.

A cement mixer collided with a prison van on the Kingston Bypass. Motorists are asked to be on the lookout for 16 hardened criminals.

Well I was bullied at school, called all kinds of different names. But one day I turned to my bullies and said ‘Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me’, and it worked! From there on it was sticks and stones all the way.

My Dad used to say ‘always fight fire with fire’, which is probably why he got thrown out of the fire brigade.

S*x is like playing bridge: If you don’t have a good partner, you better have a good hand.

I saw six men kicking and punching the mother-in-law. My neighbour said ‘Are you going to help?’ I said ‘No, six should be enough.’

If we aren’t supposed to eat animals, then why are they made out of meat?

I think animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

I was the kid next door’s imaginary friend.

Right now I’m having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before..

FUNNY THINGS

Triangular sandwiches taste better than square ones.

At the end of every party there is always a girl crying.

Nobody ever dares make cup-a-soup in a bowl.

You never know where to look when eating a banana.

You always feel a bit scared when stroking horses.

Its impossible to look cool whilst picking up a Frisbee.

Driving through a tunnel makes you feel excited.

Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

FUNNY QUYESTIONS

Why does your gynaecologist leave the room when you get undressed?

Why can’t women put on mascara with their mouth closed?

Why is it called Alcoholics Anonymous when the first thing you do is stand up and say, ‘My name is Peter and I am an alcoholic’?

Why are they called stairs inside but steps outside?

Why does mineral water that ‘has trickled through mountains for centuries have a ‘use by’ date?

Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp no one would eat?

Is French kissing in France just called kissing?

Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, ‘I think I’ll squeeze these dangly things here and drink whatever comes out’?

What do people in China call their good quality plates?

Why do people point to their wrist when asking for the time, but don’t point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?

What do you call male ballerinas?

Why is a person that handles your money called a ‘Broker’?

If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?

Why is it that when someone tells you that there are over a billion stars in the universe, you believe them, but if they tell you there is wet paint somewhere, you have to touch it to make sure.

lying all along. He and I have had a rocky 8 year marriage. This was his second marriage and my first. He treated me worse than he treated the first wife.. Well last year after he left every few months for a week are two during 8 years of our marriage. ( the longest we were together without him leaving was 9 months b/c he had a wreck and could not drive due to being disabled now) but as soon as he could get around with a limp he left to party again. Last year I divorced him and about 6 months later he came back crying going to kill himself b/c he realized how much he loved me and what he had done wrong and for a few weeks he treated me so good then here we go again. I mean it never stops.. He is 33 years old and we bacame engaged again in February of this year… I had agreed to trust him and start over and I did exactly that but later found out he was lying all along. While he is home and disabled and collecting a disability check I am working. I never say anything about it.. but he leaves and goes off with friends he promised to stay away from becuase of situations that happened in the past. ( i.e showing them naked pictures of me for beginners) and was again smoking and drinking and taking non RX drugs which he promised to discontinue. I had told him before we started again that I would not start again b/c I did not want to feel that I was taking things from him by laying out what I did and did not want in a relatinship.. He agreed and promised just one more time….. As of March 13 I caught him in so many lies and told him to come and pick me up from where he was or I would pack his things and we would be through. He said he was not coming to get me.. I knew something was up then… He blames me for ending out relationship b/c he was supposedly visiting his mother… That was not true either b/c he was already slurring his words when I chatted with him… Anyway… that was on a Friday… By Monday he had met someone and said he would never cry again and was moving on.. It hurts very bad that I have been there for him through so much… Legal battles, courts, fines, accidents, DWI’s and have always supported him and stood by him then he meets a girl and says in 3 days they have more than he and I ever had…. It hurts so much becuase myself and his children love him… He even went so far as to sign his rights away regarding his 12 year old daughter, his first child from his first marriage becuase he did not want to finish his 3 month jail sentence for failure to pay support. It makes me feel that now becuase this girl is so great he will treat her as he should have been treating me and our children…. Any thoughts on this are so welcomed….

Since it is the man’s job to drive, what are some appropriate times to let the woman drive? I was thinking when the husband was sick or drunk. What do you all think?

A woman who drinks, some kind of alcohol is considered a very huge plus to me! My wife does not knows this. Even though I always tell her to drink with me. Something! Anything! I been trying to get her to drink with me and have good times, being tipsy for the past 15 yrs of our marriage. She did at one time drink some barytle and james wine coolers, but she has completely stop drinking with me. she is very healthy. But she will never never join me in any type of fun in life, such as in this case, loosen up, get tipsy and go out dancing with me. My wife because DOES NOT like me for who I am. I am very extremely open minded and she is very extremely closed minded, so we pretty much contradict each other alot!!!! I always struggle very hard to be as happy as possible, in my marriage of 15 yrs. I NEED THE BEST ADVICE ON THIS ONE!!! From the most experienced! WHAT IS THE BEST gentle alcoholic drink, for me to introduce to my wife???
Com’on guys! None of ya’ll are being supportive and helpful, there is way too many negative vibes here!!! I am trying very hard to make this marriage work!!! Thanks for supporting me here, in a very positive way.

It’s the first essay that i have to write and it’s for University of texas at austin, and it’s about someone who has impacted your life…

He arrived in the United States to pursue higher education with little money, no background of the English language, and no understanding of U.S. culture. Kevin is a close family friend and a person I’ve known all my life. He has had an incredible impact on me, and I’ve learned a lot from him.
When Kevin first arrived he had a lack of money that left him working any job he could find and even had him sleeping in his car for a short period. Kevin’s hard work paid off and he found a wife and started a family. His mother and father immigrated to the U.S. shortly after and he had to provide for them as well.
Kevin soon found success and had a beautiful family. He became self employed and a successful business man, but even with his newfound success he never forgot his humble beginnings. In fact as long as I’ve known him, I’ve never once thought Kevin to be pretentious. Everything seemed to be going fairly well for him, but this would all soon come crashing down on him.
Kevin always makes sure that his family and friends are okay before anything else, and he proved that to me when his mother became ill and diagnosed with brain cancer. Kevin completely stopped working to take care of his mother when he could of easily hired someone else to take care of her, but he wanted to because he believed it was the right thing to do. He bathed, fed, and cleaned up after her, I can only imagine the patience that he had to have and how stressful that must have been for him. Kevin already had his pate full with his mother and at the worst possible timing his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. After his mother passed away he didn’t have any time to grief over the loss, he was busy taking care of his wife.
Since our families are good friends I had a chance to witness and experience how he took care how he took care of his wife, one time even shaving his own head because his wife was going bald as a result of the medication. He did everything he could to take care of his wife but she lost the inevitable battle with cancer and passed away. Her untimely death must have been inconceivably difficult for Kevin to deal with but he tried his hardest to handle the death of his wife well and be strong for his friends and family. Now he had to deal with the arduous challenge of working and being a single father of his three children.
After a long period of grief and depression, Kevin got his life back on track after about seven long agonizing years of taking care of his mother and wife. He had a steady girl friend for a little over two years and everything was going well. Kevin has never had an easy life and has had to struggle for everything, and after two years of peace, there was no exception. His girl friend died tragically in a car accident, and Kevin was devastated at the seemingly consecutive loss of three incredibly important people in his life. He had a downward spiral into depression and alcoholism that left him helpless. Luckily Kevin had enough friends and my family was there to help him out of the hole he was digging himself into. It was a hard time for him but he never stopped being there for his friends and family. Soon after he overcame his alcoholism life settled down for Kevin and he is now living a much more calm life. He still faces his share of challenges, but over all his life has improved over the recent years.
Kevin has had a tremendous impact on my life and has defiantly helped shape the person that I am today. One thing that I experienced first hand from watching Kevin go through all his hardships is that life is never easy, especially more so for some of us then others. Most importantly though what I learned from Kevin is that no matter what cards life deals you, you have to carry on and still try your best to help others, do the right thing, and never back down or give up. Kevin is also completely selfless and would do anything for anyone who needed it, and that has taught me to be more generous and benevolent. I’m also impressed by his humbleness and this has taught me humility. Also Kevin’s success has inspired me to work hard and try my best to get a great education so that I can have a successful career. All in all Kevin’s character is impeccable and I don’t know anyone who is as genuine as him. I will be lucky to grow up one day and be half the person that Kevin is.
Life has never been easy for Kevin, striving for everything that he has. I do not think if I went to a completely foreign country with nothing I would not experience the success that Kevin has experienced, nor would I have the same qualities that he has. Even though I mentioned earlier that he is a family friend, he isn’t he is a family member. I chose not to say that until now because I admire Kevin for the man that he is, not because he is my father.
some one please read this, I really need some input and it would really really really help me

Let me see if I have this straight…..

* If you grow up in Hawaii , raised by your grandparents, you’re ‘exotic, different.’

* Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, yours is a quintessential American story.

* If your name is Barack you’re a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

* Name your kids Willow , Trig and Track, you’re a maverick.

* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you’re well grounded.

* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that Registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs,
Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs committees, you don’t have any real leadership experience.

* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you’re qualified to become the country’s second highest ranking executive and next in line behind a man in his eighth decade.

* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you’re not a real Christian.

* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and then left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you’re a true Christian.

* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

* If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state’s school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you’re very responsible.

* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious Law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family’s values don’t represent America ‘s.

* If you’re husband is nicknamed “First Dude”, with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn’t register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

Just something for everyone to think about.

I understand the view of defiling the temple. This basically means drinking alcohol or smoking tobacco.

Alcoholism is sinful to a very high extent. Being a full time smoking is unheathful as well.

What about have a glass of wine and a cigar? Is this not moderation?
In the Bible it says to do the right things in moderation.

I walked into a Baptists church and saw many overweight people. Is someone telling them to be overweight? These people are not doing what they could for their bodies. So, why are they not considered defiling the temple and get thrown out of the church.

I knew one Baptist church that had a youth leader that went out of his wife. He wasn’t kicked out because he didn’t commit the “crime” of smoking or drinking.

In the Bible, it says to be faithful with the wife. Where is the Bible does it say you can’t smoke?? The actual word “smoke”. You won’t be able to prove it.
Don’t take me wrong. I have nothing against overweight people. God says to look on the heart.

Also, Jesus turned water into wine. He didn’t drink welches grape juice.

But with some Baptists. I feel they are telling me that white cake is much better than chocolate cake. Healthful wise.

No its not in my home but someone I know close to me is dealing w/ this. The husband has been an alcoholic for at least 35 years if not longer. He quit his job recently and decided to retire knowing his wife can pay bills all on her own an etc. The wife has insurance but cant afford to get help w/ the little money she makes and her insurance doesnt help alcoholics. He is so bad he drinks anything w/ alcohol in it. She is streesed out on top of the fact she was in the hosp a year ago for her heart and it was b/c of him. I will do about anything to help her but I need some resources that I can give her to help her out. He waits until she leaves to go to work then he gets boozed up and she might find him outside on the ground or slumped over in his truck. He is spending money that could help her please help me help her.
When he was working his insurance paid for stays at the hospital for help but not now. She has looked into committing him but was told they cant committ him unless he gives conscent. Is there anything their son can do to help?

Ok, I have just come to terms that I am a alcoholic . I fit right in there with most of the symptoms and such . My question is , is how in the hell do I go about asking for help and such? How in the hell do I tell my wife ? This is a first for me so any “real” answers are greatly appreciated !
I just simply cant stop thinking about the “buzz” ya know? Hell, I am drinking now .
Just to add some more information :
I only do this crap when the wife is gone. When she works a late shift, I stop and get a twelve pack and down as soon as I can .
Thanks for the reply Doc , but as of now, its not effecting my family or job/lifestyle . Obviously I know I have a problem, however, something such as detox , I don’t think , would work for me .
Donna C ,
Thank you very much for your reply . I completely understand what you are saying, however, the only thing that I am afraid of is my wife thinking that I am weak or looser or something along those lines .
Cheryl L , thanks for the reply, however, the family really doesn’t have a clue . For my family, its ok if one drinks a few beers/wine/whatever occasionally . Obviously, that doesn’t help my predicament .
Cheryl L ,
Thank you very much ! I had the conversation with my wife this evening after she got home from work . You were right, she already knew ! I guess I thought that everyone was obvious to the fact of what was going on .\
Thanks to everyone here for giving me the courage to start the fight .

Ok so it has been almost 1.5 years since his last DWI…two nights ago he got another one. My wife, always the hero and his older sister, is going to bail him out. I say let him rot. She drug him all over last time he did this–court dates, bank, work, etc. He, ironically, is still on probation from the last offense…
My wife says she has to spring him so he can get back to work and keep making money so that he will be able to hire a lawyer and pay all the fees etc. Makes sense….
I think, as previously stated, he should be left in jail. Why? Well he is still on probation so as soon as he is bailed out his probation officer will probably throw him right back in for violating…My 2nd point is that he is not going to learn (and grow up) if everyone always picks up the pieces for him (he is 30). Any advice would be appreciated. If you do not agree with me that is cool…if you don’t agree with my wife that is cool….just a 3rd party view would be nice. Thanks!

After having multiple negative pregnancy tests, and then missing her period, (now 3.5 weeks late) latest test shows my wife’s pregnant. We identified a few nights (3-5) with multiple drinks 1/2 bottle of wine, etc etc (birthdays, anniv,) as well as going into the jacuzzi 4X. We were careful to test for pregnancy before the outing and thought it was ok.

Could this have an effect on the baby/pregnancy? Hopefully not…

My friend is having a birthday party and inviting many guests. It is a surprise party being held by his wife. The birthday boy occasionally drinks alcohol. There will be 2 relatives attending the party that are anti-alcohol, so his wife is asking that it be a “dry” party. What do you think about this? Do you think the party should be “dry” because two people disagree with this behavior?

There is a strong smell of ammonia coming from my neighbors house. He is thin, and has the look of a drug abuser. He has people come to his house, but they only stay for a few minutes. The traffic seems to be all day and all night. Also, he has some green plants growing in his backyard in a little green house. I’m starting to think they might not be bamboo plants, but marijuana plants. This neighbor is covered in tattoos, and his wife looks like she sleeps on the back of a motorcycle.

Should I call police? Would they know it was me who gave the police the tip? Should I mind my own business?

I’ve also seen a lot of beer cans in their trash can, is this a sign that they use drugs?
