Turns out she was unhappy and told me so, but I had asked her in the past couple months if it was because of me and she would always say, no its not you, I don’t know what’s wrong with me. She wouldn’t open up to me, she’s very secretive about her feelings. When she said she needed some space, she was drunk and told me all the things that I did that she hated and it made me feel terrible and beforehand, I just kind of dismissed her unhappy thoughts as post partum depression or baby blues. Our baby is 10 months old now, but when she left, she was about 8 months old. Then I find out through the grapevine that she was cheating on me and started cheating on me about a month before she finally left. While I’m sitting at home killing myself over this situation and worrying about her so much, thinking she’s at her mom’s house all depressed and lost and lonely, I find out she’s been seeing this lowlife guy that nobody likes except her. I confronted her about it and she lied at first but finally admitted the adultery. I still love her so much and I know that I drove her away because we had not been getting along very well. We argued all the time and said mean things, but I didn’t really realize what it took to keep a marriage together. Instead of thinking all the the things I thought, I should have told her how I felt about her and told her how much I appreciated her. She’s a great mother and did so much for me and I didn’t realize how hard she really worked until she left. After hundred of dollars in programs and doctors, I’ve finally figured out what it takes to make a woman happy and I’m not nervous about giving compliments anymore. I always just figured she knew I thought she was beautiful and I figured she knew I appreciated her vacuuming and cleaning the house. We’d argue and I’d end it with saying something mean to her or her saying something mean to me. We worked very different schedules, she worked 1st shift and I worked 2nd shift. I told her I would forgive her and we should try to work it out because I have so much love to give and I know I could make her happy. This guy is no good for her, he’s a drug addict or was, he’s a bad alcoholic, he has a shitty job, a shitty bachelor pad/apartment, and 8 year old kid he only gets every other weekend and is behind on child support and about 25 people have told me that he for sure has herpes and has given it to a couple other girls I talked too. I need to get over this, but I can’t stop loving her and wanting her back. I’ve always loved her for the person she is and I guess I didn’t know how much until she was gone. It hurts because everything I’ve learned about life and love has made me a better person and I know I’d never make the same mistakes twice. I just can’t get over the fact that she cheated on me without trying harder to save our family. I’ve always thought of her as the glue the kept me in line and I’ve always been faithful to her since marriage. I don’t know what to do.
It just sucks because now I know what I need to do to make her happy and I wouldn’t be making it up, it would be truly how I feel. She’s willing to see if this guy will change for her and quit drinking as much and quit doing coke, but she isn’t willing to give the man who loves her more than anything in the world and the father of her child another go. She just doesn’t want to try and it makes me just want to give up and move on, but my love for her is so deep, that I don’t think I can give up. I want to just move on so badly, I know I can find someone else to love the new me, I have no doubt it my mind that I will make someone happy, but I just want it to be her. I’ve never wanted anyone else, just her, she’s everything I ever wanted in a woman and now that she’s gone, I don’t know if I can take it.

If a man and woman live together and are considered to be in a common law marriage then shouldn’t they marry?

Okay so for the past several days I’ve been asking you guys questions about commitment ceremonies, and weddings and marriage and here’s another question, I’m really struggling with marriage because my parents were pretty bad at their marriage. I’m 26 and this is the time in life that I’m thinking about getting married and what I want for the long-term.

My mom had 2 marriages under her that ended badly, and 2 boyfriends afterwards that I didn’t care for. One of them was a drug junkie and he went to jail for it. I was always worried and paranoid that I’d make the same mistakes that she did. Growing up I told her once how her drug junkie bf wasn’t a good guy and she just ignored me.

So I always had this fear that I would be bad at love and relationships like my mom was. btw I’m happy to say that she finally learned how to pick men, she found a nice man she’s going to get married to, about time she’s like 55. Third time’s the charm, lol. Anyway.

So I’ve been struggling with the fact if I should get married or not, or what should I do. I realize there are long-term couples like Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell and other Hollywood couples. I really want to be with someone who I love and who is my best friend in life. It seems to me that no matter what, even if you don’t get legally married the law in many states in America considers you married…

as in common law marriages. I don’t know, I’ve been thinking, isn’t it better to just get married legally…I mean if you live together, share your life together, and then just do everything together and if the government considers you common law husband and wife then isn’t it a good idea to get married?

I also was thinking I don’t want to get denied legally if something happens to the guy I love, like what if they won’t let me into the hospital because I’m not legally his wife, just his partner. What then? That would make me upset.

Also there seem to be many men whom are against marriage, I mean is there any hope for those of us women who want to get married? btw I’m still going to have a career and earn my own money if I get married. I’m not rushing to get married because I want to take my time. I really do. If I have to wait until I’m 40 to meet the right person for myself then I will. I just don’t want to be like my mom about it.

I don’t want to be one of those people who gives up on the dream of a wedding and a marriage just because the guy doesn’t believe in them.
btw a lot of guys are scared that marriage will be the end of sex, the end of fun, the end of anything good. how can I convince a good man that it won’t be the case with us?
I’ve been realizing marriage is more than just a piece of paper and I’m not interested in my bf’s money, he doesn’t have any money, he just has a normal job and I do too.
its not just about a wedding either. I want to elope to hawaii and have a wedding there with my groom, just the two of us

either that or a very small family wedding with our immediate families and close friends. Maybe at most 20-40 people.

After over 13 years of marriage, my wife has left and says she wants to be by herself. She has left several times before in our marriage for similar reasons and I have gotten her back. For the past 10 years, she (now 42) has been going through menopause with all that goes with that. The past year has been okay as we have enjoyed each others company and done fun things, even though it has been sex-less and filled with mood swings, etc. I am a christian and love my wife and am having a hard time dealing with the situation. I hate to see her destroy herself, much less our marriage. She seems to exhibit all the signs of clinical depression except for being suicidal (as far as I know). She has tried hormone replacement therapy and uses “happy drugs” to try and help with mood swings, but no help. I guess my question is, how can I get some REAL help for her and possibly save our marriage or should I just take care of myself and hope for the best for her?
To address some issues presented here: I have suggested counciling – she declines, we have been to church together – I still go, she stopped, I have suggested exercise and diet – she agrees, but never acts on it, I do most of the housework and cooking to pamper her – no help, I have taken her on many “fun weekends” away and vacations – no change, I have suggested doctor consults for change in HRT and “happy drugs” – she does not follow thru, she has issues with jobs (changed five times in 10 years), she has issues with her family (arguments with her daughter {not speaking from time to time} as well as her sister and mother and my two grown children. I think the point here, for me is, you can lead a horse to water. Maybe I have tolerated it too long and not been more insistant that she find help. Is there REALLY anything that I can do to help her, I think marriage is holy union of God and am concerned about that, but I am more concerned about her future health-mental and physical.
