My bro has 2 children w/ his wife. Both recovering drug addictics (oxycontin). They’re marriage is in severe trouble. I seem to be the only one that any of the parties (him, her, & each family) can open up and talk calmly to about it. No1 else can talk to each other without screaming. I heard my mom talk to my sister in-law today and say the most hateful things that I never thought she was capable of. I’ve heard my sister in-law (who has been a great friend for over 10 years) say hateful things to and about my bro & family. I’ve had my bro tell me that he’s getting better, then his wife calls me 1hr later & says he’s about to commit suicide. My bro (18.5 months older) is my best friend and few siblings in the world r as close as us or have been through as much together. Every1 inside the situation is losing it & all think I’m the best 1 to talk to him, her, mom, or anyone. But every1 is telling me “the truth”, but all truths conflict with each other & what I see 1sthand. What can I do?
the children are young – 1.5 and 3. I went down there to watch them last summer while my bro was in rehab. My sis-in-law is going through treatments now getting pills called suboxin… they are both so unstable and my bro is so freaking manipulative of everyone, but everyone somehow thinks they are above his manipulation.
He got committed to the hospital tonight, but I’m afraid she will make things worse for him while he’s there. I know she wants well for him… but I know that, if she’s not on OCs, she not far from them. I HATE OXYs WITH A PASSION!! SO MUCH!! John, your high school sounds like mine. I graduated in 02 (my bro in 00, sis-in-law in 01 – we were all in the same crowd), and I know that she’s so unstable and might be going around spreading her instability to other addicts, and then the oxy-addict grapevine gets started and worse and worse and worse… but for now, I just found out he’s in the hospital, so that’s a relief.
Its so hard to tell someone the cold, harsh, truth when you think it will drive them to suicide, especially when the only other person they have is their drug-addicted wife (who is recovering but is INCREDIBLY UNSTABLE). And it’s like the two families are pitting themselves against each other. And her family and my family have been intertwined long before children were born or my brother got together with her in the first place. Her cousin was my brother and me’s best friend since middle school, and he’s a drug addict too (I’m not POSITIVE about that, but pretty sure – I do know that he’s an alcoholic). So each family is convinced that the other is crazy, and each one sees me as the only stable mediater. It’s too much pressure… everyone has a different version of the truth… everyone wants to know what someone else said to me because they know I went to talk and help someone else… I don’t know how I made it out of that circle w/o becoming an addict and still loving all those ppl

A friend of mine got married and bought a house about a year ago. The Marriage in its first year hasnt gone well, the biggest strain being that as soon as the house was bought he was bombarded by his wives family.

His now Step daughter, her husband, their daughter. Also his step son all moved into the house. None of them have jobs and dont pay board, food or utilities. The deal was that they needed help and would stay there while they looked for work, unfortunately noone is doing that. My friend leaves for work shortly before 9am and noone is out of bed. He also suspects light drug use in the house from the step daughters husband.

He’s discussed the situation with his wife and got nowhere. Money is getting tight and he’s contemplating divorce.

I’m not familiar with Georgia law. Does he have a legal foothold to stand on to either get the people out of his house or seperate from his wife or is he probably screwed?

My brother in law is battling a heroin addiction. He voluntarily spent 30 days in rehab but relapsed as soon as he came out. Is there any way my wife or her family can get him court ordered rehab in massachusetts even though he is 23? we have heard of a section 12 or 13 order but cant seem to find info on it. please help as we don’t think at the rate he is going he will reach 24. If no such thing exist in Massachusetts what about Florida as my wife and I live in Florida so we may be able to get him down here if such a law exist in Florida.

My brtoher, my only brother and sibling (no sisters), got married at 23 going on 24. so for him, kinda youngish. also he had just got out of college, it wasn’t the right time really. well a year later he developed a bad habit of binge drinking, which got him 3 dui’s in the same year, 4 emergency hospitalizations bc he drank rubbing alcohol after running out of regular alcohol, and several times in rehab. his wife got pregannt about 2 months b4 i did, and about 5 months into her pregnancy, he stopped his binge drinking and seemed to have changed. well 2 months after their daughter was born, he was back to it again. his daughter, now 6 months, has wound up getting hrut from it. the day afetr ym baby who si now 3 months was born, his wife claims that he had tried to kill their daughter by trying to choke her—she told my father this and I found out through the grapevine—in a drunken rage when she was crying. then, just a week ago, in one of his drunken states, he held her and she fell, with him, and had bruises on her body so she had to be examined. that was when his wife made him go to our aprents’ hosue and he stayed for an week. well hes back there again, and he got drunk again, with the baby with him alone. my sil went to work tonight, and she called my parents and said she was frantic that he was doing something to their daughter or neglecting her. I felt bad for her, but couldnt help but wonder why if she was worried about the very life of her daughter, she didn’t just leave work? she claims she would get fired bc she was the only one there 9it’s a store in the mall0 but is anything worth more than your daughter/ I told her this and got her to leave work. But I am still in a state of shock over my brother whom Ive never known to be a ‘bad’ or violent person. I am terribly worried about my niece and something happening to her, and also him, bc of his drinking. I also feel bad for his wife and my parents, bc his wife always calls them almost every time he “acts up” (b4 their daughter was born too), which in a way is not fair to my parents bc they’re older and hes a grown man, 28 years old. anyhow, how can I help my brother?
i have a 3-month-old myself and am afraid to even leave her in the same room alone with him for a min now. (when eh comes over and I’m there with her). I am also wondering if I should offer to watch their daughter for a few days/ (her parents already have their hands full with her siblings)?

I love my sister but she is a nightmare when she has drink taken. She didnt drink for 2 years but she fell off the wagon at the weekend. mainly what she did was text and phone my other brothers inlaws and accuse my my brother and his wife of being basicially unstable – she also told a good few family secrets to these people who no one gets on with. She is now very upset, crying all the time – hates herself and is in dispair about her drinking especially after doing so well for so long. she is back at her AA meeting today. what can i say to her honestly that will help her. i hate her on one hand know she cant help it on the other and feel sorry for her. help please. ps when sober she is the nicest person one could meet. thanks all

Scott Gardner was killed by a drunk driving illegal immigrant in 2005. His wife was left severely brain-damaged, unable to walk or speak. This is a “sore subject” with many family members and spouses, so please let me explain further:

I am a recovering alcoholic (sober 5 years). Before that, I put my family through “heck” (that’s not the word I want to use, but there’s this “community guidelines” thing Yahoo has…).

I am lucky to still have my family and life. Period.

I am a strong believer in the 12 step method and AA.

I was just wondering if there is anyone who would want something “positive” to help you or your family.

AA and counseling deal with the addiction.

What I can offer (ok: my wife has a lot to contribute as well…), is the same advice I’ve learned over the years about the other part: getting your life back.

A lot of “AA’ers” tell you: “Your life won’t be the same – get used to it.”

There’s some truth to that: there are marriage breakups AFTER the spouse gets sober: the person changes.

I am very thankful to MANY people who helped me change… for the better! Not “get used to it”, but “get over it.” Back into a better life than it was before. Links to their work, teachings and advice, all on one site, would have benefited me. Perhaps I can “give back” to just maybe help someone else.

Or, is there just so much “junk” out there on the web, no one would see or care?

My brother is a permanent residents to states. He has a wife and children back home, apply for citizenship but was deny because of criminal record. He recently apply for his wife and children to come to the states. Will he be deny that too? Which i hope he will! Can’t stand him! I heard that if you petition for certain family members to immigrate to the United States as permanent residents, you have to have high income , at least a driver license (which he doesn’t DWI) , car, exc. Which he doesn’t have ANYTHING. If he does get approve how long will it take?

Hi. I’m looking for pointers on what to research to get help. Over the holidays my older brother went quite a bit crazy. Really, we almost called 911. He was very drunk, and exhibited depression, aggression, anger. Oddly though, before it got really bad, he kept bringing up mundane subjects repetitively. (He questioned a phone call I made asking him what his kids would like for xmas, at least 6 times, and increasingly angry about it. It was very odd. His wife said he does this often now. She accidentally gave him the wrong directions and he badgered her about it for hours — after she apologized.)

His son has an undiagnosed speech disability. Could my bro be the carrier of Aspergers, or is this simply depression/anxiety or alcoholism?

It’s bad, and I’m worried about his 2 young children. He doesn’t think he has a problem.

It’s new behavior. He was always socially immature, inappropriate jokes, overly loud talking, etc. Things he should have matured out of. His youngest child is high-needs, and this has added stress to their marriage. Maybe it is alcoholism. You have to practice to drink as much as he did on Thanksgiving — about 3+ bottles of wine.

What happenede was, My wife was kinda destroying the house, like throwing Tv, pencil,etc…I was trying to stop her and ahe started hitting me. She was drunk at that time. That is even what the officer told me, too. She after that, she wnet outside and call someone to help her. After about an hour, Two officer came to my house and asked me some questions…and arrested me.
I got out of the jail about one hour later and the officer in the jail told me if I don’t show up on the court date, it will be automatically guilty, otherwise, I still have a chance to talk to the judge. That is all….

A cantidate who divorced his first wife and admits to chasing his second wife around on the night he met her, before his divorce was final and the running mate who has a pregnant high schooler and a husband with a DWI?

heres the quick and short…I am an alcoholic. I usually drink to much when I drink. My wife cheated on me and moved out last august. I tore it up over the summer trying to ignore the fact that I was upset. In December she asked to come back. She said I should quit drinking. So I did. That day. Six months later still sober and really making an effort to grow in every way shape and form she continues to call me an alcoholic and tell me how much it affects our relationship. But it doesnt. I dont drink! I gave it up to be with her. I dont harass her for how much her anxiety and depression affects our family. or her other various illnesses. (vertigo, panic attacks). I dont ever bring up the fact that shes a cheater and I welcomed her back with very few questions asked. No one I know or deal with even agrees I have this problem with alcohol. The deal is I know I have it. So I chose to be a better husband and quit. I just wonder when enough is enough.
meaning how long should I let her blame her unhappiness on me. How many afternoons do I have to spoil defending myself. I never hit her, I never got in a fight with anyone, I never missed work. The only reason I felt unsafe was because I drank to much and drove home too often.
in all fairness to her I had the problem since before this summer. I really turned it up to basically be spiteful since I knew she would be really angry about it. But I didnt care I was devastated.

He left the seen with the three children & went home. The wife stayed behind & took te blame.
I recived a phone call & went to the house & found my nephew with cuts all over his face & my niece had a gash in her head. The baby was still in the car seat. I washed the children in the tub as they were coverd with muddy water from the rain water in the ditch.When I finished with the 2 & 4 year old, I got the baby out of her seat. She is two months old & only weighs 7.3 pounds, her little outfit was soaking wet. I washed & fed her, as my family member sat & drank beer. This is common with this family member to be so careless, & I feel I need to step in some way. They have been warned by the local police twice before. How do they explain cuts all over these children? I am scared to turn them in & tear the family apart. I know the right thing to do i to turn them in, but I don’t think I can.
