My fiancee and i are planning our wedding she is 25 and i am 24 been together for 6 years. Well when i was 13 i started drinking heavily and using heroin and so my parents got me into rehab and i spent 3 years there but the temptation is still there and everything but i have been clean since then. Well my wife thinks we should have alcohol at the wedding because a dry wedding isn’t fun and such and not to mention for the toast and such. Well she knows my past and such and i don’t understand why she is being like this and i don’t want to even taste it because i know what leads down that path. What should i do? Advice?

My brother has drug addictions. The main one I know of is OxyContin and I suspect heroin is also an issue.
He went to the Holistic Drug Rehab (same one that “Intervention” uses) and was “fine” when he came home, it hasnt been 3 months and here is is again back at it. His wife has kicked him out and he is “homeless” aside from staying at users/dealers places. He has nothing anymore. He is 23 years old.
What I dont get is how a person can go through 120 days sober and all of the sudden be back into the drugs. How much will he lose before he quits? God only knows.
I am just scared he will die. I love him so much.
What can I do to help him?

I lived my last 10 yrs with a husband who was addicted to marijuana, alcohol, porn, has had 4 DUI’s in the past 5 years, now has a revoked drivers license for the next 4 years and had an affair in 2004 and most recently is in an affair with his gas station manager who never divorced her husband, sold her house in another state and actually purchased a home six blocks from my home. My husband left me and our 10 yr old son in Feb 2008 and now lives with her. I am 47, he is 41. Wow, looking at what I just wrote it looks like I am the crazy one for staying with him. That’s what happens when we think we can change someone. I don’t do drugs, drink very seldom, have a good paying job, I am attractive but very overweight from depression and lack of self esteem. I took care of him, my son, and everything else in the our home from bills to household problems. I took care of everything except myself, and look where I am today. Sex was no problem in the beginning but now I realize it was because I always initiated. When I got tired of initiating, being ignored, going everywhere with my son alone (and not my husband) and so much more, the sex stopped, not because I was going to teach him a lesson, but because I was not interested anymore. Sex was not important to me anymore. You want to give affection when you get affection. After all of this, my husband was able to walk out of this house and away from our son and I blaming me for the affairs, no sex, I was overweight, I was never going to change, he had no money, (he mostly worked as a gas station attendant) and the story goes on and on. He walked out of marriage counseling after we talked about my problems and started on his. He has never been physically abusive, called me any names, he gave me all his paychecks minus his $30.00 a week weed money, he did dishes, the laundry, cooked some meals, was the bathroom cleaner and never once in 10 yrs complained about watching our son or complained of having to take our son with him anywhere (he did not drink but did smoke the weed). So I looked at him as being this very good husband and father because of the few things he did do. I then figured out that he was like a child and quickly doing his household “chores” so he could then go out and play as he had admitted, his jobs were at minimum wage, he was more interested in smoking weed and having oreo’s and milk after work than showing his wife any attention (for years) and more. I have been in counseling for 14 months with a drug and rehab counselor, not because I have drug/alcohol addictions, but I was trying to figure out my husbands behavior and why he would shack up with his boss instead of working on our marriage. It’s simple, I finally set some boundaries in my marriage, his desperate married girlfriend allows him to smoke weed not only at home but right before they go to work, he drives her new truck with a revoked license, she didn’t want kids so has no other responsibilities therefore has time for sex that I am sure she always initiates. I tell myself she thinks she got Willy Wonka and the golden ticket, but all she got was Willy Wonka. This is my problem, why do I feel like she is looking at me as the loser because she has my husband, like I am the wife that didn’t give my husband sex, didn’t take care of myself, didn’t pay enough attention to him, ect…. What pyscho would actually “purchase” their home 6 blocks away from the current wife as if to say, ha, ha, I got your husband. Can someone please help me to understand why I hate her so much when I am the normal one and she and he are not. The counselor, who knows my husband also, explains to me that I am the normal one, maybe not normal for being with my husband for so long, but that the marriage crumbled along time ago because of the substance abuse. Can I please get some views on this except what an idiot I was.
Sorry, I did not write that I was married for 2 years already before getting pregnant, those were the only 2 good years. I did not get married because I was pregnant and never would for that reason only. I do appreciate everyones input, it does help me to understand better.
Some people do change when a child is born, unfortunately for my son, his father did not. I took the risk of him changing and my son lost. I am a great mother and hold my sons happiness higher than anything else.

Don’t know any other section to put this in, so here goes….

Anyway – married for 12 years, 2 kids. Wife has had an alcohol problem in the past. She has gone to treatment (AA and other groups). This was about 5 years ago. For the most part its all good.

However, she seems to have a “fall-off-the-wagon” incident about once every 12 to 18 months. EVERY time it happens, I get the same “I’m sorry, it’ll never happen again…. I’ll do anything not to loose you….” speach. She gradually rebuilds the trust in our marriage until the next binge comes along.

Most recent one was this past Sunday at a neighborhood cookout. I didn’t even really know she had been drinking (thought it was just Coke – without the Captain…).

Anyways – I’m tending the grill and all of a sudden she is stumbling all over the place in front of many of our friends and neighbors ! I get her cousin to help me get her into the house and put her to bed.

I am left to “explain” that she’s not feeling ..
well to our friends and our oldest son. Also left to attend to the kids and clean up after the cookout / etc…. OK, whatever.

As we are finishing the clean-up (me and a couple neighbors) – who comes stumbling down the driveway?…. I quickly got her turned back into the house and into the bedroom.

After I got the kids in bed, I went to check on her…. There is blood on the floor and in the master bath ! From what I can tell she got up to either use the bathroom or to puke and ran herself nose first into the door-jam ! I just leave it for her to clean up the next day.

Bottom line – I don’t know if I can forgive this last episode. She has already lied to her family, our son and some friends about how she got the busted lip, black eye, and scrape on her nose !

She gave me the whole, “Never do it again” B.S. the following day and for the past 2 days.

I feel like it only happens about once a year, but also like ….
I’m with a spouse that cheats (with alcohol, not another person)…. then promises never to do it again, yet ALWAYS does it again.

I love her dearly, but no longer trust her… her words have very little meaning b/c I’ve heard it all at least 4 to 5 times before.

Does ANYONE – know of any couples that have overcome something like this?

Any ideas? Or am I just putting off the enivetiable by not leaving now?

I’m afraid to leave b/c of the kids…. her abuse is not frequent enough, nor severe enough for me to have a chance in hell of getting full custody.

So, she’d likely get the kids AND the house and I’d just be F’d in the end anyways by the family courts….

Just wondering what to do ?!?!

A man goes to a party and has too much to drink. His friends plead with him to let them take him home. He says no he only lives a mile away.

About five blocks from party, the police pull him over for weaving and ask him to get out of the car and walk the line. Just as he starts, the police radio blares out a notice of a robbery taking place in a house just a block away. The police tell the man to stay put, they will be right back and they hop a fence and run down the street to the robbery.

The guy waits and waits and finally decides to drive home. When he gets there, he tells his wife he is going to bed, and to tell anyone who might come looking for him that he has the flu and has been in bed all day.

A few hours later the police knock on the door. They ask if Mr. Joe is there and his wife says yes. They ask to see him and she replies that he is in bed with the flu and has been so all day.

The police have his driver’s license. They ask to see his car and she asks why. They insist on seeing his car, so she takes them to the garage. She opens the door. There sitting in the garage is the police car, with all its lights still flashing.

True story: Told by the driver at his first AA meeting.

My wife took a lot of xanax and other prescription drugs while drinking a substantial amout of whiskey. She is bi-polar. She fell several times and has the bruises to prove it. We took her to her psychiatrist who sent her to the hospital for a minimum 72 hr stay. He says that she needs to be de toxed from all the prescriptions that she’s been on as well as the alcohol to which she has become addicted. Is 72 hrs enough time for someone to de tox? She has been on psychotic meds for 25 yrs. She keeps getting worse. At the emergency room she told the nurse that she was trying to kill herself. She had a full bottle of xanax but only took 16. Anyone with the misfortune to have experience with this type of trouble is asked to share what they know. Thank you.

My wife is currently in rehab for alcohol, bulimia, and depression. She has been having problems for years and I finally told her if she doesn’t get help and stop, that I was going to get a divorce. She has now been there for 4 days and I still have no idea what’s going on? I know she’s in detox, but they haven’t told me how long she will be in there. Does anyone know how long someone should be in rehab with these problems? I think she should stay there for at least 90 days, but she seems to think she can get out in a couple weeks. ??????

I am interested in others views on this subject. I personally think that these centres have a great plan of action. The flaws are that grouping lots of codependent individuals with each other in a closed ‘big brother’ type environment is creating lots of ‘relationships’ between patients who pair off and enable each other to drink/do drugs again.
I am amazed at how people enter services to do the detox for their husband or wife and kids only to forget them in a few days and start a sexual relationship with another user.
What is your opinion on such services and do you have any better ideas?

A friend of mine binge drinks and insists that he is not an alcoholic because he can go without alcohol during the week. He drinks heavily until he is drunk on weekends. He never has hangover. He is 50 years old. He insists that he is only like this because he is sad (he wife left him 12 months ago). He has lost his driving licence for the second time in 10 years. I think he has to stop drinking altogether but he says he must wean himself off gradually. Will not go to AA because he does not have problem. What can I do to help him?

Ok I have a 12 year old girl, and My wife (her step mother) and I had found out last minute that we were to go to a function. my dad and Alchie said he would watch her. when we came back 4 hrs later he was TRASHED he could not see straight and he did not know where he was/what he was doing

Much to my disappointment and my wife’s Shock

I have not said anything to him, he stayed the night because he could not drive. Or make it down the 3 flights of steers and left this am about 9 ish back to his mothers house…

He does not admit he has a prob or that he needs help.

I have already cut all unsupervised access to my daughter by my dad, He is removed from the authorized pickup list at my daughters school, He has 1 OUI/DWI . Probably not necessary but at this point I’m securing her as much as i can..

I grew up in a dysfunctional home. I Survived an Abusive childhood and will Never subject my daughter to what I went through , By 10th grade I had been to more AA meets than
most recovering alcoholics have been to in 3 years, I had to make sure he went. 3 nights a weekend 2 on Sat and 2 on Sunday… (I never went with the “Cool kids” to drink because I knew the road they were heading down and i didn’t want that ride… )
I’ve read the “Big Blue Book” 3 times and can recite any of the hit rock bottom stories..

To put it mildly I don’t drink.

I need to protect my daughter from the affects of alcoholism. She has already had a rough life. He mother broke it off with me and marred/divorced a deadbeat and my daughter was being taken for the emotional ride.

What do i do..

Other than know the i cant do anything does not help. the Serenity prayer just doesn’t work for me

My wife of 5 years and I have 1 child together. Our son is 3 years old. Shortly after his birth my wife began to drink often. About a year ago she became what I considered an alcoholic. She drank most every day and drank a lot. She was always drunk but when at work. She works evenings so she got drunk before work but not wasted and wasted when she got home.

After some big problems eg. driving drunk with our son and passing out when she was supposed to be watching him, I was at the end of my rope. I had a professional intervention done and put her into rehab for her health and for how she was behaving with our son and how she was treating me.

She was in rehab for 30 days and got out 2 weeks ago. The day before she got out of rehab she told me she had had sex in the parking lot with 2 different coworkers on 3 separate occasions over a 3 week period in March. One she had sex with once and the other twice right after she got off work for the night. My wife that I knew prior to alcohol would have never done such a thing. She told me this before getting out of rehab because she said the alcohol made her a monster and she wanted me to know so I could move on or forgive her and start anew life with her sober. She swears she will never drink again as it makes her a monster. She says if it was not for being an alcoholic that she would not have been in the state of mind of wanting to do anything to make herself feel better about herself. She says she would not like a person or think very highly of them if they behaved as she had…she swears she is not that person. In the last two weeks she has signed a post nuptial agreement in which she gets nothing if we get divorced…I get everything we acquire in the future including the house, cars and savings that we have now. She is trying to prove to me that she will never do such a thing again. She knows I am loyal and would never hurt her as she has done to me so she trusts me not to leave her and use the post nup unless she does something in the future to deserve it. She has returned to being a sweet caring wife but this could be because of guilt. Can alcohol really make a person a monster like this even when not drunk?

I was saved about 13 years ago and was delivered from alcoholism by Jesus Christ. I was in a bad marriage and my wife did not support me in my changes and new Christian ways of living. The stress of this made me pick up the alcohol again. How do I stop? And please dont tell me to just put it down. Anyone who is a drinker knows this is not as easy as it sounds. I would like to hear from someone who has had a similar experience, and how did you overcome it? I would like to be back to where I started with my relationship with Christ.
To clarify, I am typing this question for my husband

First, I’m not defending to the cigarette…

But I think the alcohol produces more victims than the cigarette. Many people kill when are drunk driving a vehicle, fighting under the effects of the alcohol, or hitting drunk to her wife and children. Also, a lot of people die by cirrhosis.

I don’t know somebody has caused an accident to smoke, or the cigarette motivated somebody to fight and to kill another person, or somebody hit savagely his wife and children to be under the effects of the cigarette…

I think the alcohol is worse than the cigarette. However, every year, more billion dollars are spent in campaigns against the cigarette than against the alcohol…

Why to pander to the alcohol? How many trillion dollars are moved behind the industries of the liquor and the beer?

It’s a double moral.

An university professor said: “The alcohol is necessary in the society because it’s the drug that brutalizes… the governments need to govern brutalized people.”
NOTE: When I use the term “brutalize”, I mean to make to somebody idiot.” Please, excuse me if my translation to English is not the correct one.

My in laws and I did an intervention on my wife a few days ago for her alcoholism. The rehab facility that she was taken to faxed a Doctors note to my wife’s employer stating, “she will not be available for work for the next 6 weeks she is in Doctors care.”

My wife’s employer called me today stating that she will be fired if she is not back within 3 weeks. Can they do this?

The federal labor law states…
Family and Medical Leave Act

Covered employers must grant an eligible employee up to a total of 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12-month period for one or more of the following reasons:

to take medical leave when the employee is unable to work because of a serious health condition.

I did not list the others because they do not apply

Would alcoholism be considered a serious health condition?

After having multiple negative pregnancy tests, and then missing her period, (now 3.5 weeks late) latest test shows my wife’s pregnant. We identified a few nights (3-5) with multiple drinks 1/2 bottle of wine, etc etc (birthdays, anniv,) as well as going into the jacuzzi 4X. We were careful to test for pregnancy before the outing and thought it was ok.

Could this have an effect on the baby/pregnancy? Hopefully not…

So in order to deal with this depression I have been trying to drink lots of booze. So far it is working alright. My wife is definitely a lot happier that’s for sure. But occasionally the alcohol wears off so I’m wondering exactly how much should I drink to get over this depression while still somewhat functioning?

He has some friends who are totally useless, they call him out to drink! there is nothingelse they call him for. I dont like them. they are not even to his standard.
I have tried telling 2 of his friends about what happens when he come home from drinking, they told me- dont worry we wont call him out anymore which lasted for 1 week only and after that they keep calling him out.
I just dont understand why he has to go out and drink with his friends. I have tried to stop him by blackmailing him to choose which he wants.. his wife or alcohol.. but still after few days he is back to drinking.
Can someone tell me some trick that i can use on him.

I’m originally from asia but currently live in the US and met the love of my life. I swear this girl and I were made for each other and have so much love for each other. We both want to get married but…I would like to raise my kids to be non drinkers (and she agreed to that but i expect her to not drink, at least at home or in front of them) and would like the possibility of either moving overseas or possibly even to another state, but she is completely refusing to even entertain the ideas. Will I ever move? I don’t really know, i just want to know that she would be ok with it.

All i really want to do is know that my future wife or wife when she is is willing to do whatever it takes and is willing to do anything for her husband and family, is that too much to ask? I must point that she is very close to her family, as i am close to mine but that is a big reason why she would not want to move, naturally.

Any and all thoughts are most welcome, thanks in advance.

If your loved one is suffering from alcoholism, you may feel like you are alone, like your loved one is a completely different person when they’re drinking, and your relationship has been strained so much it might break if they don’t seek help. Getting help for your loved one may seem difficult, but you don’t have to do it alone.

One way to get your loved one to get help is to coordinate with your family and friends so they are aware of the problem if they aren’t already and so they can help you and your loved one. Your friends and family can help you by providing someone to talk to when you don’t know what to do, or they can talk to your loved either one on one or by having an intervention. While it may be difficult to talk about your loved one’s alcohol problem, having the support of friends and family can make a big difference.

While your friends and family will pay a roll in getting help for your loved one, your loved one is going to need professional help to deal with his or her alcoholism. Your loved one is going to need counseling, behavioral therapy and other help they can only get through an Alcohol Rehabilitation center. It may be scary to have your loved one enroll in an inpatient or residential program, but it is the best way to deal with alcoholism. Inpatient and residential programs will take your loved one into a controlled environment where they can deal with their alcoholism head on without having to worry about the stress and triggers for their behavior life throws at them. Another reason why inpatient and residential programs are so successful is that they remove alcoholics from places where they will have access to alcohol and give them the coping skills they need to avoid alcohol before it becomes a temptation to them.

Your loved one may fight you and resent that you want them to seek treatment, but it is important to remember that it is only their denial talking. Once your loved one goes through treatment successfully, they will realize that you only want what is best for them and they will appreciate the new lease on life that you have helped them receive.

I have been happily married for years and I have no complaints with the exception of one;
My wife uses prescription drugs at a level which is beyond safe.

She uses them in the morning. She uses them in the evening.

I am very scared. Her Dr. told me that it is a safe level, but she has two doctors who do not know about each other and each prescribes the same medication.

I am at my wits end. I do not want her to get into trouble with the authorities but I do not want her problem to get worse.

WHAT SHOULD I DO???????
