Young people take their hair for granted. They like to shave their heads, grow it into dreadlocks, bleach it, dye it, tie it into knots, and braid it. The medical condition of depression is a result of many different reasons and it is often tough to decide the exact cause of depression.

Some reasons can be related to long ago abuse and injury while others many be related to current stressful situations such as financial issues and even other reasons for depression can be related to either illegal drug use or as a result of side effects of certain prescription drugs.

There are many who believe that people choose to be depressed and it is the homeless or mentally ill who suffer, not the “normal everyday” folks. But nothing could be further from the truth. Take a look at the example below to see just how quickly depression can take hold on a previously stable soul.

A loving couple of adults in the early years of marriage have two young children. Because they made the decision that the wife would be a full time mom, she left her office job and returned home to raise their family.

The dad works at one of the factories in town and even though he doesn’t make a lot of money he makes enough to keep them comfortable and happy.

One day after work, he arrives at home feeling a little sad since he learned at work that day that the company is struggling financially and that lay offs are eminent. His generally supportive wife has had a tough day with a sick child and a broken washing machine and is less than supportive when he talks with her.

She is only concerned that they can keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.

Another week goes by and things remain tense and then it happens. At the end of the day on Friday, he is handed a pink slip. His job is gone and there is no severance package. The company may collapse all together leaving everyone out of work.

He trudges home and explains the situation to his wife who responds with anger and fear. She simply wants him to find work and to assure her that as a family they are going to be ok.

He searches for a job, just like all the others who are looking, but he has no luck. His previously loving and supportive wife is getting more scared by the day as they are quickly draining all of their savings. They both are yelling at each other, the kids are crying and both go to be furious at each other and the world around them.

The bills are mounting, drinking to relieve the fear and pressure seems reasonable. Sleeping instead of hunting for a job feels better and safer. His days pass and the routine is the same, look for a job, get turned down, come home, fight with his wife, drink to dull the pain and go to be to sleep it off.

Despair turns into desperation, the fighting continues. The job market is flat.

He is drinking more heavily and cannot see his way past the depression that has engulfed him and ruined his previously happy life. His wife takes the children and returns home to her mother. She asks for a divorce and the cycle of depression that has overtaken her husband now threatens to drown him completely.

The depth of the depression he is battling is winning out and now he rarely leaves the house. He has lost everything he ever held dear. Now he only leaves his bed and his home to purchase a meager supply of food and more alcohol. He has withdrawn from the world and without medical care, the depression he is fighting will ultimately control his life.

Sounds silly? Sounds like that it could never happen to you? Don’t be so sure. One little change in the life you enjoy can lead to financial pressure, fighting with your partner, an absence of emotional support and a deteriorating self esteem which can all ultimately take you down the path of a cycle of depression that requires long term extensive medical treatment.

Depression occurs for many reasons and it attacks a variety of ages, but the good news is that you do not have to live with it, there is hope for you.

I have a friend that is in desperate need of some help. He started out with a promising future, good job, marriage, purchased a home. He hooked up with the wrong people, got hooked on crack, then lost his job, his wife and his home. He’s been to rehab, no help, because he went in for the crack addiction but did not mention to them that he was an alcoholic and a compulsive gambler. He has had his driver’s license suspended, ( he was a truck driver),due to DUI , DWI’s and did not pay his fines and has done time for drug possession and have not held a steady job in years. If it wasn’t for family and friends he would not have a place to live or clothes on his body. He is a middle aged guy and although there are support groups out there for younger people, you just cannot find groups that can help a person of his age with what he is experiencing. It seems that he has just given up on life. Is there any help or hope for this person?

I’m originally from asia but currently live in the US and met the love of my life. I swear this girl and I were made for each other and have so much love for each other. Should I call police? Would they know it was me who gave the police the tip? Should I mind my own business?

She has had three therapists tell her that we should get therapy individually instead of together. I think their wrong. I am a dry drunk of over 12 months as they call it. Our marriage was in divorce court and it was called off. She tells me we can’t work on each other until we are fixed individually. She has said she wasn’t sure if she wanted to work on our marriage unless I go and get help first. I feel me going to a therapist is her way of buying time in order to do nothing but lead me to believe there is a chance for us. I feel she won’t go together because she is using me and someone else might see it to. Can a marriage work if we are getting help seperatly telling our therapist what it is we believe to be true about the other or should we be doing it together.
I have gone to 4 different therapists that have all told me she won’t work together in the relationship because she doesn’t want it. I’m not a big fan of therapy so I don’t listen to them and their end it bullshit because thats the simple solution and means the need for more therapy and they need me for the money. I also stopped going when I would tell her what they were saying and it did nothing but cause arguements for us because they weren’t seeing things they way she wanted. I’m told the people I chose to go to are idiots. This is why I’m asking if we should be going together. She says her therapist says no and I feel if her therapist is wrong and our marriage falls apart, what did the therapist loose?

My wife gets drunk not often, but when she does she turns violent. She attacked me the other night and I don’t want to hurt her so I don’t properly defend myself. So I usually get a beating. I love her and what her to stop drinking but I can’t supervise her all the time. Should I stand up to her or take it?

He thinks his wife has cheated on him. Which is not true. He think all this happened 3 yeas ago.He has been in hospital for a week and all these story started a week ago aswell. Will he get better and forget all this?

My wife stopped taking a multitude of prescription drugs cold turkey 2 weeks ago as advised by her doctor. She was taking xanax, fiorocet, and effexor (not positive) on a daily basis along with god knows what else. I found a box slam full of pill bottles so who knows what she was taking and she’s too wacked out to even know now. I had a sort of intervention where i kicked her out and sent her to her parents until she could get her act together. She had gotten to the point where she was slurring her speech in broad daylight but was still 99% there. Well after quitting she spent 3 days vomiting. Then insomnia set in. It’s been 2 weeks and now she is having severe hallucinations, talking really fast, sleeping maybe 2 hours a day, having sleep walking episodes and conversations out loud in her sleep when she does sleep. She is completely disconnected from reality. She confuses things she saw on tv with actual life. I had to spend 5 minutes convincing her I knew nothing about some “party dog” i later found out is something from desperate housewives. Her parents took her to a sleep study and they sent her to the emergency room! (of course the ER said they couldnt help) Now she is at Life Management center where she will be going under a psychiatric evaluation. My question is: Has anyone ever witnessed people act completely and uterly looney bin crazy after stopping drugs? I’m hoping this is something that will wear off after the drugs have purged but it’s so bad I’m starting to worry that I might be a single dad soon.
Thanks for your answers I feel a little better already. To answer some of your speculations: yes, she took zolpidem regularly (ambien right?) and also zanaflex. and no she is not overweight. In fact, she has lost about 40 ounds in the last 6 months and is scary skinny. I busted her with 1000 xanax bars and 100s of fiorocet that she ordered from china. Thats why i gave her the boot. Her doctor is not very respected in the medical community and is known for turning his patients into junkies. She originally went to him for chronic migraines and a few years later was prescribed a multitude of anti-depressants, muscle relaxers, etc. Seemed odd to me that he would suggest cold turkey when everything i read about these drugs warns otherwise.

My wife and I are both 19 and have been married for 5 months and been together almost 2 years. She is also 34 weeks pregnant so we will be having a baby in 6 weeks.
I have always been a competitor whether it be football or track and field but since we have moved in together and I have a full time job as a manager, I don’t compete in anything.
I recently decided I want to do Amateur Bodybuilding. To do that, I feel that I need to take an anabolic injectable steroid called Trenbolone to be in the absolute best shape I can be in.
My wife thinks that steroids are dangerous but its only because the media hypes them up to be a lot worse than they really are. I have yet to see any medical proof that they are harmful to you IF TAKEN THE RIGHT WAY. She is scared thinking that I’m going to go into a “roid rage” and hurt her or the baby and doesn’t want me to take the “risk”.
What should I do? Should I just do them anyway?
