Got hooked on percs and lortab around November of 2007 and in March of 2008 came clean to my wife and parents about the pain killer addiction. Instead of just going through the withdrawl, I looked for an easy way out and started on Suboxone. So I was on Suboxone for over a year and finally on June 30th I had enough and checked myself in to a detox so I could get off everything once and for all. After a month, I finally feel good mentally again, better than I have in 2 years. Problem is the BACK PAIN. As soon as I started feeling good in every way my back started killing me. This has been going on for 2 weeks now. Could this be a lingering effect of the pain killers and suboxone?? Anyone have a similar situation??

Yeah, when I take Vicodin the pain in my back (that I didn’t even know I had, as well as the pain I do feel) goes away, and I feel like getting up and doing something. Problem is That they all cause liver damage. My doctor says marijuana does the same thing, but does NOT cause liver damage.

What pain was it that got you hooked on the narcotics to begin with? Was it this back pain? It’s possible that you were medicating an underlying condition, but what is also possible for anyone who has been addicted to pain killers is that the subconscious really doesn’t like reality so it creates pain that will require pain medication. It sucks, but this type of pain and confusion about what needs treatment and what doesn’t will be with you for a while. (Mine started creating blinding headaches from hell.) Always, always, go to the doctor and get your symptoms checked out. Always, always make sure the doctor knows that you don’t want any narcotic or otherwise addictive substances. Lately doctors are prescribing a lot of tramadol (Ultram) believing that it’s not narcotic and not habit forming. They are wrong. It doesn’t test positive as an opiate only because it effects different receptors in the brain, but you’ll pick up a habit sure as rain. It’s up to you now to take full responsibility for your recovery. See the doctor, but seek alternative methods of dealing with your pain also.

For tonight take a hot shower with focus on the back that hurts. Follow up with a heating paid for 30 minutes and then BenGay. If it doesn’t go away, see the doctor. Good luck in your continuing recovery.
