• Their templates of “Christian virtue”, like Newt Gingrich, has admitted to cheating on his wife, in a marriage that ended in divorce because of it.
What gives? Is the “party that owns morality” in a state of implosion?
So let me get this straight, sharia: the best defense you can muster for your leaders is “nobdoy’s perfect”?

Before you get too high on your pedestal do you really want to climb up there? Especially since the list of liberal transgressions is just as long, if not longer than the conservative one? Take your Queen of Transgression, the woman who will more than likely be the Socialist Party’s candidate for president. Is there any one or any couple in recent history that has transgressed more? I mean her husband is, quite literally, a draft dodging, drug using, drunk and she’s no better.

1) I am not the slightest bit interested in defending Bush, so no comment.
2) I never listen to Rush Limbaugh, so again no comment.
3) Whaddaya mean “top” leaders in Congress? Since when has Larry Craig been one of the most important spokesperson of the party about anything? Even former Congressmen Foley was largely an unknown figure before his scandal. Why do you call those two guys the “top” members of the Republican caucus? Oh, I figured that out. You are stigmatizing the entire party because of the actions of a couple of people.
4) Newt Gingrich was not known as a leader primarily because of whatever he had to say about “family values.” His major issues were about economics, not morals. Nonetheless, your pointing out some degree of hypocrisy in him does not seem to recognize a crucial point: when a person has preached values that ARE good and ARE worthwhile, the fact that they do not practice what they preach is no reason to say that they have no business preaching at all. Those persons need to change their behavior to match their rhetoric.
On the other hand, you forgot one major point and what you forgot to point out is why I do not support the party any more. Not because of any of the imperfections that you itemize, but because of an altogether different problem of hypocrisy that you did not mention.
Do you recall how often Republicans have preached about the evils of judicial activism? And do you remember what Rehnquist, O’Connor, Scalia, Kennedy, and Thomas did for candidate Bush in December, 2000?
Put THAT one in your arsenal and then get back to me.
I can’t begin to defend a politician’s behavior any more than I could defend yours. How an elected official conducts his or herself is one thing, how I behave is what really matters most. Career politicians (from any party) are driven by three things: Power, money and sex (not always in that order either). If an officeholder is found to be behaving in inappropriate ways, we as a people have a duty to remove this individual from power. HOWEVER, that behavior should not be seen as an excuse for me to lower MY standards right?
